Behavioral Health Board creates ad hoc committee to track bills, considers adding Older Adults and Children’s committees

At the April 9 meeting of the Humboldt County Behavioral Health Board’s SUD/Dual Recovery Committee, member Marguerite Story-Baker announced the board has established an Ad Hoc Committee to monitor new bills and regulations and to provide feedback and possible support or opposition on proposed legislation.
Story-Baker said the ad hoc panel will review pending legislation and advise the board on whether to offer formal comments or recommendations. She also said the Behavioral Health Board may add committees focused on Older Adults and on Children to give targeted attention to those populations.
Deanna Bay, Humboldt County SUD Administrator, gave a program update on changes to the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS) wellness and recovery processes, and Danette Kellerman said planning is beginning for Recovery Happens 2026, a community-wide event scheduled for September.
The announcements were made as informational items; no formal policy actions or votes on legislative positions were recorded during the meeting. Committee members discussed next steps for the ad hoc group and public engagement at future meetings.
