Palmyra Board approves consent agenda, advances new AI policy and calendar change

The Palmyra Board of Education voted Aug. 13 to approve its consent agenda, which included policy and curriculum actions, safety and security documents, and administrative approvals.
The full board, on a motion by Ms. Campbell and seconded by Mr. Dickinson, approved the consent package by roll call: nine ayes, zero nays and one abstention on a single minutes item (Ms. Allen-Yoakum). Among the items approved were the 2025–26 District Safety and Security Plan, acceptance of the SSDS Period 2 submission for 2024–25, and the Security Drill Statement of Assurance for 2024–25.
The board also gave first-reading approval to several new policies, including P 2365, Acceptable Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence, and P 5339.01, Student Sun Protection. First reading means the policies were introduced for formal consideration and may return for final adoption at a later meeting. The body approved the District Evaluation Tools for 2025–26 (Danielson framework for classroom teachers and the New Jersey Leadership Rubric for administrators) and accepted multiple professional-development plans for the coming school year.
Administrators won approval for a revision to the 2025–26 district calendar: adding an in-service day on Oct. 13, 2025, and removing the in-service day previously scheduled for March 20, 2026. The superintendent also reported classroom- and curriculum-related updates such as a new K–6 ELA curriculum at Charles Street School and expanded AP and middle-school offerings.
The motion carried as part of the broader consent vote recorded in the meeting minutes; the board took no separate final action on the AI policy beyond first reading. The meeting adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
