Bonner County commissioners approved two Parks & Waterways grant agreements: one to buy a tracked UTV for Priest Lake grooming and another to acquire a service-body utility truck.
Mazeler, the Recreation Director (speaker 10), said the tracked UTV project totals about $58,000 with an $11,600 match drawn from program/user-fee dollars, not property tax. The board briefly denied an initial motion because the motion did not include the grant project number and dollar amounts clearly; after clarifying the project number (MV27-1-09-1) and the match, the board approved the grant and authorized the county to provide the $11,600 match.
Public commenter Wayne Martin raised liability concerns about volunteers operating county-owned equipment; board members explained the grooming volunteers have been reorganized and must sign agreements and complete training so that they are covered by county insurance when operating vehicles.
The board also approved a second parks grant (project MV27109-2) to buy a service-body utility truck, total project $48,000 with a county match of $9,600. That motion passed by roll call.
Both grants were presented as previously vetted by the respective program boards; directors said program funds and user fees cover most of the costs and the county match was budgeted in the Parks & Waterways grant budget line.
