At a Farmingdale work session on June 22, trustees continued discussion of several commercial permitting matters and adjourned a public hearing on a proposed expansion at McGrath's, 217 Main Street. The Building Department reported that McGrath's now proposes a 207-person occupancy with a 119-seat restaurant upstairs, which the department said will create additional parking implications and requires a Special Use permit application.
Deputy Mayor William Barrett moved and Trustee Allison Ingram seconded to adjourn the public hearing on McGrath's interior alterations and the Special Use permit; the board resolved to hold the hearing on Monday, August 3, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. The adjournment preserves the record and gives the board and staff time to vet parking and permitting requirements related to the proposed intensification.
Building Department staff also reported that a demolition permit for canopy and gas-station equipment at the former Sunoco (site of a 7-11) has been issued and that the overall permit for the stores remains pending; a change-of-address for the former Sunoco (to 85 Merritts Road) was approved by the board. The department noted ongoing multi-family and rental inspections, nuisance follow-ups and an issued facade permit for The Saint at 195 Main Street with interior-alteration permits to follow. Illegal rentals are under investigation.
No final approval for McGrath's expansion was recorded at the June 22 work session; the board scheduled the continued hearing to gather more information about occupancy, parking and permit conditions.
