During the March 17 session the Pennington Borough Historic Preservation Commission considered a set of routine "other business" items.
George Ford drafted letters of support that were signed and sent: one to support the County and Regional Planning Grant to update the County’s Historic Preservation Element of the Master Plan, and another supporting the Hopewell Valley Historic Society’s Historic Site Management Application to prepare a preservation plan and National Register nomination for the Burrowes/Oldis House at 218 Washington Crossing–Pennington Road. The minutes record both letters were sent to the New Jersey Historic Trust.
Commissioner Natalie Shivers raised street-tree concerns in the historic district, noting the Borough Council previously gave the Shade Tree Committee purview of street trees on county roads. She said the commission needs to decide species selection, who will install and maintain new trees, and inventory how many trees are dead or were lost. The commission agreed to invite Borough Council Member Kit Chandler to the next meeting to provide a Council update.
The HPC’s portion of the quarterly Pennington Borough spring newsletter was drafted from a Hopewell Valley Historic Society 250th-anniversary article by Larry Kidder; Jack Davis said he may add introductory text. Chair Holtermann reported that Karl Niederer (Hopewell Valley Historical Society) and Max Haden (Hopewell Township HPC Chair) suggested minor text changes to the History Awards program and that the commission will add one additional award category to the existing six.
No votes on funding or policy changes were recorded in the minutes; most items were procedural or for future follow-up.
