Council rejects proposed change to Juneteenth observance; members agree to further Personnel review

Clerk‑Treasurer Julie Roberts said the change requires more review because several departments have employees who work weekends and it would be important to treat employees consistently. Nesland noted the League of Minnesota Cities generally conforms with observing federal and state holidays and supports closures, but Roberts emphasized more analysis was necessary.
The motion failed by a 2–3 vote (In favor: Nesland, Hammond; Opposed: Maki, Hetland, Grotheer). Following the vote, Councilmember Maki said the issue should be referred to the Personnel Committee for review and other council members agreed to further review the matter.
