Donna Sullivan, Land Use Administrative Assistant, read the application into the record and said no abutter notifications were required for an amended site plan and no department comments were received. The board found the submission complete before hearing from Genoa representatives.
Emily Kyrargyros, representing Genoa Healthcare, told the board the company operates a similar pharmacy at Mid‑State Healthcare in Plymouth and proposed the Bristol location to provide a closer option for local customers who currently travel to Plymouth. Gorton Poe, Genoa sales director, clarified that the proposal is for a “closed‑door” pharmacy: the license would not allow retail walk‑in sales of over‑the‑counter products or exterior signage; all dispensed items would be provided on prescription.
Genoa said construction would be minimal, using a previously designated space, with interior walls, shelving and a drop door. Poe and Kyrargyros described security measures consistent with State Board of Pharmacy and DEA rules, including alarms, special locks and shuttering on the reception window. The applicants requested weekday hours of operation, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; they said the pharmacy would only be open when Mid‑State is open and that options exist for patients to get prescriptions filled when the pharmacy is closed.
Board members asked about transfer procedures, accessibility for customers with mobility issues and whether Genoa participates in Medicaid and discount programs; the applicants confirmed transfers would be handled like other pharmacies and that Genoa serves Medicaid patients and may participate in discount programs at some locations.
With no public comments, Vice Chair David Shirley moved to approve the amended site plan as requested; Scott Severn seconded and the motion carried 5–0–0. The approval permits Genoa Healthcare to operate the closed‑door pharmacy serving Mid‑State clients, employees and the community during the stated weekday hours.
The record indicates no additional conditions beyond standard regulatory compliance; the board did not require a separate public‑notice process for this amended plan. The board will include compliance with applicable state and federal pharmacy security and licensing requirements as part of the project file.
