Mason Consolidated Schools board approves hires, contracts and tax rate at Aug. 6 meeting

Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education President John Otting called the Aug. 6, 2025 regular meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. in the Mason Senior High School IVN room. The board approved an amended agenda, adopted the 2025–2026 MHSAA membership resolution and carried all subsequent motions by 5-0 votes.
The board approved multiple personnel and contract recommendations that together will affect facilities, food service and student support. The board rehired middle-school English teacher Kelsey Cole at Step 11 MA with a salary of $69,203 and approved the hire of Traci Fackelman for middle-school special education at Step 10 BA pending favorable criminal history, reference and background checks. Both personnel motions carried 5-0.
On facilities and equipment, the board accepted a $65,050 quote from Monroe Plumbing and Heating Company for the Filter First Fixture Replacement and Installation Project and later accepted a separate quote from the same company for replacement of the weightroom rooftop unit. The board also approved purchases for the food-service program: a Hobart-model elementary dishwasher from TriMark SS Kemp for $41,251 and a three-door True Manufacturing refrigerator from HPS for $7,728.38, both funded from the food-service excess fund balance. All motions on those items carried 5-0.
The board approved contracting with ATI Holdings LLC to provide athletic trainer services. The recommended 2025–2026 individual contracts and the recommended 2025–2026 tax rate were each approved by recorded motions; minutes show each motion passed 5-0.
President Otting presented the July check register and the financial report; board members asked no questions. A presentation from Comprehensive Energy Solutions (Josh Dyer) was recorded in the minutes; no formal board action on that presentation is noted. Public comment was offered during the meeting; the minutes record that no formal action resulted from public comments.
The board highlighted upcoming and community events, with member England noting the Luna Pier Parade and Grodi mentioning the Maplewood Fitness Park.
