Grant of up to $15,000 awarded for Big Spring Park gazebo repairs

The Town of Fincastle reported on June 11 that it has been awarded a BOCO Recreation Department grant of up to $15,000 to address repairs to the gazebo in Big Spring Park.
Town Manager Melanie McFadyen told the council the grant covers repair or replacement of boards, steps, spindles and handrails, plus painting. Work has begun with pressure washing of the roof; stone mason Bert Perky is expected to begin work on the park monument by the end of June. McFadyen also said she will ask the sheriff’s department whether they can assist with work on the park bridge.
The grant-funded repairs aim to restore the gazebo and related park features; the council received the update as part of routine management reports. No formal council motion or vote specific to accepting the grant was recorded in the minutes.
