County approves AmeriCorps Cape Cod three‑year grant, first year ~$499,999

Misty Niemeyer, AmeriCorps Cape Cod program manager, said the award restores program stability after two years of one‑year funding and will permit a return to a full corps of 20 members. "We already have 189 applications for 20 positions," Niemeyer told commissioners, noting the program had accepted 19 members and was finalizing the last candidate.
Commissioner Bergstrom moved the acceptance motion; Commissioner Lyons seconded. The board approved the grant acceptance by unanimous roll call.
Niemeyer said the secured funding will allow the program to focus on recruitment, member support and supervisor hiring; the program is recruiting three program supervisors to lead the 20 members during the upcoming service year.
The motion authorizes execution of a grant agreement between the Massachusetts Service Alliance/AmeriCorps State & National and Barnstable County for service dates beginning Sept. 30, 2026, through Sept. 29, 2027 (first year); the three‑year award is approximately $1.5 million in total.
