At the April 8 meeting the Upper Merion Township Planning Commission conducted an interactive mapping exercise to inform the Comprehensive Plan's land-use recommendations. Township Planner Jarrett Lash guided the Commission through potential areas for residential growth and discussed different housing types including accessory dwelling units, duplexes, townhomes, multifamily housing and mixed-use development.
Commissioners weighed neighborhood compatibility, infrastructure capacity, environmental constraints and preservation of community character while considering appropriate levels of residential intensity for specific areas. The exercise was presented as an information-gathering step to shape future land-use recommendations rather than a decision-making item; no formal motions or votes were taken on specific policy changes.
No members of the public offered comment during this portion of the meeting. The mapping inputs and discussion will inform draft language and recommendations in the Comprehensive Plan update process and are expected to return for further consideration at future meetings.
