Upper Merion EAC readies Earth Day festival, Bird Town outreach and volunteer work days

Upper Merion’s Environmental Advisory Council used much of its March 3 meeting to plan community outreach around Earth Day and other spring activities.
Louise Willis said she spoke with Township staff (Paige) about publicity and recommended that EAC, Shade Tree, SSA and McKaig be located close together at the Earth Day festival scheduled for April 18. The council discussed using two tables or a double tent for activities. The council also planned a plant swap for May 2 at the Farmers Market under the pavilion and said it will raffle a rain barrel, a mosquito trap and wren houses; wren houses and mosquito buckets will be sold for $5 each and each attendee will receive one free raffle ticket.
Theresa Landewe said she will send promotional information about the BCA Grant Seminar Series and the plant swap to Tiffany Bellamy (and to Gerri). Chair Zachary Davis introduced Kaitlyn Dibble, Public Landscape Manager at BID, who said part of her role is overseeing some township properties and that she could potentially add pollinator gardens and rain gardens in township-managed spaces.
Members also noted a Bird Town virtual spring gathering on March 5 (registration closed March 3) and announced volunteer dates: a winter work day on March 14 (10 a.m.–2 p.m.) at Heuser and a 'Scrub and Pub' event on March 26. There were no public comments at the meeting.
Next steps: council members will finalize publicity materials and event logistics for Earth Day and the plant swap; Kaitlyn Dibble will follow up about potential on‑site pollinator installations.
