The City Council of Lanett voted Aug. 5 to remove a proposed ordinance that would have allowed alcoholic drinks at special events from the meeting agenda so the city attorney could review the draft for legal issues.
Councilman Tony Malone moved to amend the agenda to remove the ordinance (agenda item B); Councilwoman Angelia F. Thomas seconded the motion and it was approved on a unanimous roll call. Councilman Ronnie Tucker asked why the item was being removed. City Attorney Gray said he had received the ordinance the previous Friday but had not had time to review it extensively. Mayor Pro‑Tempore Tifton Dobbs suggested the draft might attempt to change a matter governed by state law.
The removal means the council did not consider or vote on the ordinance at the Aug. 5 meeting. No additional timeline for legal review or a new hearing date was specified in the meeting minutes.
The council adjourned after routine business.
