The Arlington County Commission on the Status of Women voted to adopt an updated approach for its county fair outreach and discussed logistics for staffing, promotional materials and a proposed post-fair 'coffee chat' to engage new contacts.
Members agreed the commission’s fair presence will focus on a brief, audience-friendly engagement where visitors can vote on a short list of policy ideas drawn from other cities. The group discussed staffing windows (Friday evening and Saturday as peak times), rack cards and a pop-up banner to improve visibility, and the cost implications of printed materials; members asked volunteers to provide availability and for a subcommittee to collect printing quotes.
The Chair proposed hosting a casual 'coffee chat' at a nearby woman-owned café after the fair as a low-pressure follow-up event; two tentative dates were suggested (Sept. 19 or Sept. 26) and the Chair said the commission can use Eventbrite and social platforms to promote it. Members also discussed whether to label the fair ideas as “examples used elsewhere” and agreed the origin can be cited in conversations and in feedback the commission sends to the county.
The commission approved the update to the fair engagement questions/process by voice vote; members will finalize specific materials and a list of five candidate 'best practices' to present to fair attendees and to the county when reporting results.
