Council hears utility-billing complaints and code‑enforcement update; mayor names two to Planning Board

Councilmember Angelia Finley Thomas told the Lanett City Council she had received calls from residents concerned about additional days being added to utility bills. City Clerk Deborah Gilbert said city hall received approximately three calls about the billing issue and that each affected customer was offered a credit of days to be added to the next month’s bill.
Thomas also raised concerns about a house she said may be involved in drug activity. Code Enforcement Officer Johnny Wood said the individual associated with the property has warrants pending, and Wood indicated code enforcement is addressing the matter.
Mayor Jamie Heard announced appointments to the Planning Board, naming Ron Pless and Teresa Woody; Pless was present and was asked to stand. Attorney Stanley Gray told the meeting that Judge Terrance Brown has decided to move court to Lafayette instead of Lanett. Several council members offered prayers for victims of Hurricane Helene and thanked local departments and volunteers supporting relief efforts.
The council adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
