Anthony Ortiz, representing the State’s Attorney’s Office, told the commission the office moved to Axon in 2023 and said it stores roughly 157 terabytes of case-related data across adult and juvenile matter. He said law enforcement agencies upload tens of thousands of pieces of evidence to the portal and that the county’s defense portal gives private attorneys 90 days of cloud access before items are purged unless accounts are re‑shared.
Ortiz described recent features the office has used: in‑cloud cell‑phone extraction viewing, automated transcription with multi‑language recognition, keyword flags (for terms such as Miranda or references to weapons) and a short automated synopsis of longer body-worn camera videos intended to speed evidence review. He said the office participates on an Axon customer advisory board and that the vendor is responsive to feature requests from prosecutor offices.
Local bar representatives told the commission they have not received major complaints about Axon’s functionality and that electronic discovery has made access and tracking easier for both prosecutors and law enforcement.
What’s next: The commission accepted the update for the record and directed staff to continue coordinating integrations between Axon and the county’s Enterprise Justice (Odyssey) case-management work.
