Bland supervisors approve consent agenda, multiple appointments and school requisition

The Bland County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved its consent agenda Feb. 25, which included payroll disbursements, multiple months of vendor bills, departmental reports and appropriations: a December 2024 Social Services local allotment of $16,086.38 and the Bland County School Board's March 2025 requisition of $1,141,146.10. Board Supervisor Stephen Kelley moved approval and Board Supervisor Patrick Groseclose seconded the motion.
The board also approved a slate of appointments to local boards and commissions. Among those appointed were Sharon Puckett and Keith Costello to the Bland County Public Library Board of Trustees (terms to expire Dec. 31, 2028), Cameron Burton to the Bristol Transportation District Regional Improvement Commission (open-ended term), Randy Johnson and Patrick Groseclose to the School Facilities Committee (1-year terms through Dec. 31, 2025), and multiple other appointments to the Economic Development Authority, Local Board of Building Code of Appeals, Mount Rogers Alcohol Safety Action Program, the New River Valley Criminal Justice Board and regional EMS and college boards as listed in the meeting minutes.
The board also approved a small appropriations request to support an After Prom ($100 from each supervisor's community fund, total $400) and adopted a proclamation recognizing David E. Dillow. Later in the meeting the board moved into an executive session under Virginia Code §2.2-3711(A)(1) to discuss personnel matters, returned to regular session and unanimously certified the executive session under Virginia Code §2.2-3712. The meeting recessed to March 4, 2025, at 4:30 p.m.
