Bland supervisors adopt consent agenda, end burn-ban state of emergency and add local holiday

At its Dec. 17 meeting the Bland County Board of Supervisors approved the consent agenda and several administrative items including a resolution ending a local burn-ban emergency and the addition of a local holiday.

On a motion by Supervisor Stephen Kelley, seconded by Supervisor Patrick Groseclose, the board approved the consent agenda. The consent package included minutes for prior regular meetings (Nov. 14 and Nov. 26, 2024); payroll issued Nov. 29 ($145,410.06) and Dec. 16 ($142,381.13); vendor bills for several months (amounts listed in the minutes); departmental reports; appropriation of the October 2024 Social Services local allotment ($15,864.44); and the Bland County School Board's January 2025 requisition in the amount of $1,141,146.10. The roll call vote was unanimous.

The board adopted a resolution certifying the end of the local state of emergency for a burn ban effective Dec. 17, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. on a motion by Supervisor Randy Johnson, seconded by Supervisor Patrick Groseclose. The board also adopted trash bill adjustments for Oct.–Dec. 2024 totaling $3,033.54 (motion by Patrick Groseclose; second by Stephen Kelley) and approved an amended holiday calendar adding Dec. 26, 2024 as a local holiday (motion by Stephen Kelley; second by Patrick Groseclose). All votes were unanimous by roll call as recorded in the minutes.

The minutes list departmental reports received and do not record public speakers during the public comment period. The board recessed the meeting at the conclusion of business; the minutes record the meeting recessed until Jan. 6, 2024 at 4:00 p.m.
