Polk County Board of Equalization approves vehicle tax exemption for Midwest Covenant Home and corrects tax list

The Polk County Board of Equalization voted May 26, 2026, to grant a motor vehicle exemption for a 2026 Forest River bus recently purchased by Midwest Covenant Home and to approve Tax List Correction No. 1033, the board's minutes show.
The meeting convened at 9:00 a.m. in Osceola, with Chairman Jerry Westring presiding. After the April 21, 2026 minutes were read and approved, Westring noted that a current copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted in the meeting room.
At 9:05 a.m., Board member Boruch moved to open a hearing on the motor vehicle exemption request for Midwest Covenant Home; Chairman Westring seconded and the roll-call vote to open the hearing was recorded as Boruch, aye; Westring, aye; Boss, aye. The board recorded that no interested persons appeared during the hearing.
Boruch moved to close the hearing and then moved to approve the motor vehicle exemption for the 2026 Forest River bus recently purchased by Midwest Covenant Home. The motion to approve was seconded by Boss; the roll-call vote was Boruch, aye; Boss, aye; Westring, aye.
Assessor Krance presented a letter certifying the values for the real estate assessment roll for tax year 2026.
Assessor Krance also presented Tax List Correction No. 1033, which the minutes state added personal property that was not reported for 2025 until now. Board member Boss moved to approve the tax list correction; Westring seconded and the roll-call vote was Boss, aye; Westring, aye; Boruch, aye.
There being no further business, the Board of Equalization adjourned at 9:20 a.m. County Clerk Debra S. Girard signed the minutes.
