Winnfield council approves hires, an electrical rate study and application for $60,000 LGAP grant

The Winnfield Mayor and City Council unanimously approved a package of routine actions at their Jan. 13, 2026 meeting, including personnel hires for police and fire departments, a consulting contract for an electrical rate study and a resolution to seek $60,000 in LGAP grant funds for heavy equipment.

The council approved the Dec. 9, 2025 minutes on a motion by Councilperson Caldwell, seconded by Councilperson Miller. Councilperson Breda moved and Councilperson Caldwell seconded approval of a quote from Delta Consulting to conduct an electrical rate study; that motion passed unanimously. The council also approved a recommendation to move funds for the Lepa utility after a motion by Councilperson Breda and second by Councilperson Dudley.

Public-safety staffing changes approved included the hiring of Heather Corley as a part-time jailer and Ashley Glenn as a part-time dispatcher, both recommended to the council by Assistant Chief Charles Curry and approved on motions by Councilperson Dudley. The council also approved hiring Zachary Engram as a volunteer firefighter following a recommendation from Fire Chief Jessie Montgomery.

In its principal financial action, the council adopted Resolution 26.1 authorizing the City of Winnfield to apply for an LGAP grant in the amount of $60,000 to purchase heavy equipment such as a skid steer track loader. The resolution was adopted by unanimous recorded vote.

All recorded motions listed five yes votes with no objections, abstentions or absences. There was no public comment recorded on these items.
