Commissioners accept Osceola TIF report, hear benefit-plan briefings and highway update

The Polk County Board of Commissioners approved the annual report submitted by the City of Osceola for its tax-increment financing (TIF) program and received informational presentations on employee benefits and road projects during the May 19 meeting.
Representatives from Benefit Management provided information about the county's employee benefit package. Tim McGonigal of NACO Benefit Services reviewed the county's current health insurance plan and outlined options available through the NACO Blue Cross Blue Shield group and Medica. The board discussed the presentations but took no action on benefit-plan changes.
Highway Superintendent Theis updated the board on road department activity: decking was placed on the Polk SE bridge with remaining welding work; Beebe Street has been paved and the county will next address drainage improvements; and monitoring reports for the motor graders showed anomalies in fuel consumption that Supt. Theis said will be investigated. Theis also said the county received a letter from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development indicating HUD will administer the Lone Star West project.
The board approved routine items and adjourned at 11:45 a.m.; the next meetings are scheduled for May 26 and June 2, 2026.
