Polk County commissioners approve $750,000 transfer to road fund

Polk County’s Board of County Commissioners voted May 26 to transfer $750,000 from the County General Fund to the Road Fund, a measure the board said was already included in this year’s budget.
Chairman Jerry Westring moved for the transfer; Richard Boruch seconded the motion. The roll call vote was unanimous: Westring, aye; Boruch, aye; Boss, aye. The board approved the transfer to provide cash flow for scheduled road work and bridge repairs.
Road Foreman Ericson, reporting for Highway Superintendent Theis, said dirt work was under way on the Polk SE bridge and crews planned to grade the remaining mile before reopening that road. Ericson also said Beebe Street on the south edge of Osceola is open to traffic, and that millings will be placed at the end of the Shelby North blacktop and at the fairgrounds next week.
The board adjourned at 11:40 a.m.; meetings are set for June 2 and June 16, 2026, and agendas will be available at the County Clerk’s office.
