Livingston board honors teachers and support staff at reorganization meeting

The Livingston Board of Education opened its Jan. 6 reorganization meeting with a celebration of district educators, recognizing teachers and support staff chosen as each school's educator or support professional of the year.
Presenters from across the district highlighted honorees' classroom practice, leadership and community involvement. Dr. Barreto introduced Melissa Lowenthal as Burnett Hill's teacher of the year, noting her service since 1998 and leadership of student council fundraisers. Michelle Sabula recognized Kelly Feeney, Collins School's educator of the year, for her work as a reading specialist and dyslexia specialist. Dan Garcia honored Emily Schulke of Harrison Elementary for 18 years of first-grade teaching and student‑centered instruction.
Other honorees included Caroline Dugan (Hillside), Holly Cummings (Riker Hill), Lisa Clemens (Mount Pleasant Middle), Katie Reha (Heritage Middle), Brian Carr (Livingston High School), and Eleni Katalifo Sasson (District Education Support Professional of the Year). The superintendent and presenters praised honorees for their instructional skill, collaboration, and contributions to school climate.
The celebration segment concluded before the board moved on to regular business, including budget discussions and public comment.
