Braddock District Council appoints secretary, reviews finances and sets 2023 meeting topics

The Braddock District Council unanimously approved Susan DiMaina as secretary and accepted the council's September 2022 minutes during its virtual meeting on Dec. 21, 2022. Chair Bob Cosgriff called the meeting to order at 7:27 p.m., and nine people attended, establishing a quorum.
The council received a treasurer's report showing a Truist Bank balance of $2,991.99 on Aug. 31, 2022; withdrawals from September through November of $522.27; a Nov. 30 balance of $3,269.72; and a Dec. 21 balance of $3,369.72 after recording $100 in dues. Since the previous meeting, the treasurer said the council recorded $800 in dues payments, which included one duplicate payment.
"Breathing new life" into the BDC was singled out during new business when Sally Kidalov of Supervisor Walkinshaw's office thanked board members for their recent work, a comment Chair Bob Cosgriff acknowledged as part of the meeting's remarks.
Sarah Lennon, BDC vice chair, reported that paid membership stands at 16 and encouraged members to reach out to non-member neighborhoods to increase participation; she noted Truro has sent a check and will be added to the membership list. Lennon also described outreach steps she regularly uses to raise awareness, saying she posts on the BDC website, the council's Facebook page and on Nextdoor to cast a wide net across nearby communities.
The board set an initial schedule of topics for 2023 meetings: a Feb. 15 in-person meeting focused on liability, membership best practices, newsletters and dues and featuring an invitation to the high school winner of the Best in Braddock community service award; an April session for legislative reports from state senators and delegates; and the June annual meeting with board elections for 2023—2024.
The meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
