Boyce officials review sidewalk, Whiting Avenue and trash bid updates; request storage-container ordinance

Town Administrator Matt Hoff told the Boyce Town Council on March 4, 2025 that VDOT has requested a meeting with engineers about planned sidewalk work based on a Painter/Lewis report; Hoff said he will reach out to Tim Painter to review next steps. Hoff also noted a new email regarding 8 Whiting Ave received that evening.
The council asked town attorney David Griffin to prepare a draft ordinance regulating storage containers and scheduled a joint meeting with the Planning Commission for March 17, 2025 at 7 p.m. to discuss zoning issues including fencing. No ordinance text was provided at the meeting; Griffin was asked to complete the draft by the March 17 meeting.
Council members discussed trash services and reported one bid has been received; the bid included an option for a multi-year contract and staff were asked to follow up with Amber of Freedom if additional information is not received by the end of the week. Treasurer John O'Neil reported that unpaid taxes are considered delinquent at this point and said he is obtaining information and a quote/proposal for town technology services.
Other items noted in reports included Boyce Volunteer Fire Company’s announcement of a Free Hot Dog Friday on March 7, 2025 and that BVFC is recruiting additional members and career staff. Council also reminded departments that budget requests are due April 1, 2025.
The meeting adjourned at 7:37 p.m. after scheduling a work session for March 25, 2025 at 6 p.m. and confirming the next regular council meeting for April 1, 2025 at 7 p.m.
