The Boyce Town Council on May 6 moved forward on enforcement at 8 Whiting Ave after Code Compliance Inspector Todd Shiley reported apparent commercial activity at the address.
Shiley told the council he had blocked an individual who was selling a vehicle at the property overnight and that the property appears to be used to run a business through Facebook Marketplace. The town attorney has been directed to initiate new citations for current violations; council members discussed separating new citations from previously assessed fines and placing a lien on the property to collect outstanding amounts.
Floyd Hudson specifically requested that the town "do whatever needs to be done to collect the fines," and the transcript records direction that the attorney move forward with lien action. The minutes record no vote tally for that directive beyond the attorney being instructed to proceed.
Why it matters: Council enforcement and possible lien placement could affect property ownership records, outstanding town fines and/ or the property's future habitability. The action shows the town is escalating enforcement where inspectors believe a residential property is being used as an active business location.
Next steps: Town staff will coordinate with the town attorney to issue new citations and to pursue lien placement as authorized by the council. The transcript does not provide the owner's name, the amount of outstanding fines, or a date for further action.
