The Boyce Town Council voted Feb. 4 to authorize a limited online job advertisement for the town's vacant Code Compliance Inspector position and to increase the post from the current hours to 15 hours per week with a pay range of $17.88 to $21.00 per hour.
Councilor Carol Coffelt moved to set up an Indeed account to post the job through February with a budget limit of $150; Berkeley Reynolds seconded. Council members discussed application and click fees on Indeed, the option of local newspaper advertising and monitoring the funds spent on the listing. The motion passed 4-0-2, with Floyd Hudson and Dennis Hall recording abstentions.
Separately, Councilor Floyd Hudson moved to increase the position to 15 hours per week and to set the advertised pay range at $17.88–$21.00 per hour, with Berkeley Reynolds seconding. Council discussed the potential budget impact and the practice of listing a pay range to attract applicants. That motion passed unanimously, 6-0.
Town Administrator Matt Hoff said pre-screening of applicants had begun and that résumé review showed at least one candidate with limited code-compliance experience outside building codes. Council members asked that recruitment be geographically targeted and that the advertisement note the pay range and hours. The council did not direct a different recruitment platform at this time and limited the Indeed spend to avoid open-ended charges.
The council's actions authorize staff to proceed with the job posting and to advertise the new hours and pay range; no additional implementation steps or funding allocations were specified at the meeting.
