Planning Board hears updates on Carmichael Street fencing, 30 Federal Street developer withdrawal and local housing projects

During Other Business at the June 5 Planning Board meeting, members received several status updates on local projects.
Member Jayne Farrin asked why the Carmichael Street solar project fencing did not include the slatted screening discussed at review; staff replied the fencing detail had not been included in the motion approving the site plan, so it was not required on the installed fencing. Farrin also queried 30 Federal Street; Tim St. Peter reported that the city issued a Request for Quotes and received one proposal, but the developer withdrew when he believed the city would provide $20,000,000 to the project.
Farrin asked about the Elm Street housing project; St. Peter said it was moving close to completion and confirmed access onto North Street will be closed, leaving Elm Street as the only access point. Board members were told a University of Maine proposed housing project is on hold; because a previously approved solar array is no longer moving forward, there is discussion of a potential subdivision off Greenhill Drive.
