Planning Board tables request to allow storage units in agricultural zone

Planning staff reported an email request from Josh Miller seeking permission to construct storage units on property zoned Agricultural/Farming/Forestry. Tim St. Peter told the board that the current Land Use and Development Code does not allow storage units in that zone; he noted the code previously allowed such units by special exception from the Zoning Board of Appeals but that the exception is not available under current rules.
Board members expressed they were not in favor of changing the code at this time. Richard Engels moved to table further discussion of the zoning change; Tim Vernon seconded the motion. The motion to table passed by a 5–2 vote. The board did not set a date to revisit the matter during the Aug. 15 meeting.
The vote leaves the code unchanged for now; any change to allow storage units in the agricultural zone would require a future proposal and formal amendment to the Land Use and Development Code or a return to the Zoning Board of Appeals process, neither of which was scheduled at the meeting.
