Commissioners approve $15,700 paving for jail frontage and ok refrigeration replacement

Sheriff's office representative Lee Davidson told commissioners the front parking area at the Ripley County jail requires reconstruction and presented a Dave O'Mara quote of $15,700 to remove and replace the pavement, reset parking blocks and repaint markings.
Commissioners agreed the work could be paid from the jail maintenance fund, made a motion to proceed and recorded unanimous approval. Lee advised the sealing of adjacent areas may be handled separately and staff will adjust appropriations as needed.
On equipment, Lee reviewed repair and replacement options for an aging two-door reach-in refrigerator in the jail kitchen. Repair estimates ranged from about $1,170 (minor repair) to $3,000 if a new compressor was required; replacement quotes included a Phoenix model at $4,864.90, a mid-range option around $3,099, and a recommended Trollson unit at $5,500 with a six-year parts-and-labor warranty and a seven-year compressor warranty. Commissioners voted to accept the $5,500 Trollson option, citing longer warranty and expected lifecycle suitability for institutional use.
Lee also presented institutional washer/dryer packages (Unimac, Milnor) with total-installation estimates (Unimac roughly $19,068; Milnor higher). Commissioners asked for additional comparison details on durability, warranties and long-term lifecycle costs and tabled final action on laundry equipment until more information is provided.
