Ripley County commissioners voted July 6 to award the county'wide yearly pest-control contract to Plunkett's, after hearing competing proposals and cost comparisons from Cardinal and Plunkett.
Craig, the county maintenance lead, presented the scope and said the contract would cover the courthouse, annex, jail and two EMS buildings; Plunkett's annual bid of $8,280 was the lowest offered, compared with Cardinal's roughly $11,000 annual estimate. The vendor explained monthly service includes interior monthly treatments, rodent stations and callbacks for nests; more extensive treatments such as bed-bug remediation would carry additional charges. Commissioners asked about digital service reporting and confirmation that all sites would be logged in a single portal for auditing.
Commissioner (who made the motion) moved to accept Plunkett's annual contract and the motion was seconded. The board recorded unanimous aye votes and authorized staff to complete digital signatures and finalize the agreement.
The contract award follows a short review of recurring maintenance needs at county facilities; commissioners asked maintenance staff to provide written cost-tracking of past pest-control activity and to confirm any additional out-of-pocket costs for special treatments. The county will proceed with Plunkett's onboarding and execution as soon as the signed contract is returned.
