The Long Beach Island Board of Education met in executive (closed) session at 6:00 p.m. on Sept. 23, 2025, in the gymnasium of the Long Beach Island Elementary School, 200 Barnegat Avenue in Surf City, where the board heard a legal update and reviewed student matters.
Business Administrator and Board Secretary Meghan Lee stated that adequate electronic and mailed notice of the meeting was provided under the Open Public Meetings Act and listed The Press of Atlantic City, The Sandpaper and municipal clerks for Barnegat Light, Harvey Cedars, Surf City, Ship Bottom and Long Beach Township as recipients. A roll call recorded Ms. Hagler, Dr. Oros, Mr. Wright, Mrs. Linkewich, Mrs. Raber, Mrs. Hoffacker and Mrs. Southwick as present; Dr. Chung and Mr. Schragger were absent. Superintendent Dr. Peter Kopack, Principal Frank Birney and Ms. Lee were recorded as "others present."
Dr. Peter Kopack reported that there were no Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB) incidents to report. The minutes record that attorney Dennis McKeever provided the board with an update regarding the sale of the Long Beach Island Grade School. Because the item was discussed under attorney/client privilege in executive session, the minutes do not include further detail about the sale or any terms discussed.
At 6:19 p.m., a motion was made to adjourn the executive session and return to public session; the minutes state the motion passed with "all in favor." The minutes were signed by Meghan Lee, Business Administrator/Board Secretary.
The executive session minutes list the meeting start time, attendees and the two substantive agenda topics (student issues and attorney/client privilege). The district did not provide additional public details about the sale or next procedural steps in the executive minutes.
