Ridgway extends local disaster declaration as town pursues funding for Beaver Creek repairs

The Ridgway Town Council approved a 30-day extension of a local disaster declaration related to damage at the Beaver Creek diversion during its Oct. 9 meeting.
Town Manager Preston Neill told the Council the original declaration, made Aug. 14, was expiring and presented an update on funding and technical support. Through assistance from the Colorado Water Conservation Board, the town retained Wright Water Engineers to prepare a conceptual plan, cost estimate and assumptions for repairing the intake structure and transmission system damaged by a debris flow on Aug. 12. Neill said the report will underpin applications to the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and to USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service watershed programs.
Councilmember Schuyler moved to extend the emergency declaration under the Colorado Disaster Emergency Act for another 30 days; Councilor Kroger seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. The extension preserves the town's ability to seek state and federal emergency funding and to proceed with design and repair planning.
Officials said the engineering report is intended to provide a basis for funding requests; no construction contract award was authorized at the Oct. 9 meeting. Council directed staff to continue pursuing available state and federal program support.
