Town reports new affordable units, broadband upgrades and personnel hires

Town staff updated the committee on a range of municipal projects: two new affordable housing units tied to the Waterwoods project are arriving at the end of Town Street and construction is underway; the town is preparing an RFP for a brownfield assessment at a Route 7 potential housing site funded in part by a brownfield grant.
Staff also described ongoing technical infrastructure improvements. The town is deploying faster fiber (Senet / Connecticut Education Network) to public buildings; West Cornwall Firehouse is already live and the public library is expected to come online as part of the program. Town hall roof replacement quotes are being gathered and insulation work is planned.
Personnel changes include the recent hires of a new land use administrator (Spencer Musselman) and a new tax collector, replacing a longtime incumbent. Staff said the town is now recruiting for a parks & recreation director. Other updates noted by staff included planned fire-truck purchases in coming years and local recreation and tourism promotion efforts to leverage businesses such as Clark Outdoors and Bark Outdoors.
Staff also reported recent elevated E. coli levels at Green Hill Lakes that have since decreased and did not require beach closure; the beach remains open.
