Sanbornton Recreation updates park improvements, summer events and new program proposals; online payments deferred to June

Town Park irrigation and electrical work are complete, Recreation Coordinator Amanda Pelissier reported at the May 12 Recreation Commission meeting. Selectman Ralph Carter scheduled a training with Gilford Well on how to program and operate the irrigation system. Pelissier said Superior Fencing finished work from the backstop to the dugouts with assistance from TNLL, and the highway department placed large logs to block the area above underground water tanks. Carter asked Pelissier to draft new park signage, including language addressing vandalism.

Pelissier said she would like to run concessions at several baseball games; the commission approved a small revolving fund allocation to support concessions earlier in the meeting. Pelissier also said Summer Day Camp is fully enrolled for six weeks, with one remaining week that has four open spots.

Pelissier advised commissioners that arrangements are in place for the SCS 5K and Old Home Day, including inflatables and a promotion table for the Sanbornton Sharks Cheer program. Commissioners discussed field‑lining for soccer so baseball and soccer could both use fields; Kerri Federico will work with Pelissier on line markings.

Pelissier introduced a vendor payment proposal intended to allow online payments for programming. Commissioners asked her to research how to invoice families who do not have a fixed Before/After Care schedule and to consult the Town Administrator about financing; Pelissier will bring a recommendation to the June meeting.

Other programming ideas discussed included an African Drum & Dance class (estimated cost $300 per discipline or $600 for both) and a community flea‑market/yard‑sale event with resident and nonresident table fees ($25/$35). Pelissier relayed resident interest in purchasing a raft at the transfer station; she will prepare paperwork for the selectmen to consider.

Pelissier also presented a proposal to start a youth recreation cheer program. Uniforms were estimated just under $200 each; commissioners emphasized that the program should carry the town name ('Sanbornton Youth Cheer') to avoid confusion with district programs while permitting a team nickname such as Wildcats. No formal vote on the cheer program was recorded; commissioners discussed arranging initial uniform purchase to be offset by registration fees and fundraising.
