Selectboard discusses drainage work on Dr. True Road and Maple Circle

On May 6 the Sanbornton Selectboard reviewed proposed drainage work for Dr. True Road and Maple Circle and directed the Highway Department to refine plans and cost estimates.
Highway Department Director Johnny Van Tassel said he would rent an excavator to perform drainage work and could add riprap to reduce runoff. Selectman Mark Brown noted that Maple Circle is not explicitly covered by the town’s Gale study but observed that drainage upgrades are needed to prevent runoff into the lake. Selectman Ralph Carter mentioned that a Vortechs system at Maple Circle had not been completed and suggested that completion be funded from the Watershed Preservation Capital Reserve Fund.
Selectman Brandon Deacon said any work should meet or exceed Gale recommendations. The board asked the Highway Director to determine existing road widths, the width required, and compare costs for performing the work in-house versus hiring a contractor.
Next steps include returning to the board with measurements and cost estimates so the Selectboard can determine funding and a timeline.
