The Northeast Texas Regional Mobility Authority presented Harrison County with a $300,000 grant on Jan. 14 to help rebuild Lansing Switch Road, a county official announced during the Harrison County Commissioners Court meeting in Marshall.
Glenn Green, executive director of the Northeast Texas Regional Mobility Authority, introduced members of the authority’s board and staff and said the county was chosen by the board to receive funds through the authority’s project program. “You were chosen by our board of directors to receive a grant in the amount of $300,000,” Green said.
The grant is intended to contribute to reconstruction of Lansing Switch Road but does not cover the project’s full cost; county officials said additional county financing will be required. The presiding county official thanked the authority and invited the recipients to pose for photographs after the presentation. “This is not the first time…they’ve contributed substantially,” the presiding official said, thanking Glenn Green and the local board representatives for their support.
Why it matters: The grant directs outside transportation funding to a local road project that county staff and commissioners have identified as needing reconstruction, reducing the county’s direct financing burden for at least a portion of the work.
What’s next: County staff and road-and-bridge officials will incorporate the grant into project planning and county financing; the presentation did not include a formal vote authorizing contract awards or construction, and commissioners did not take additional action on the project during the meeting.
