Anna Boudreau and Lindsay Rosa of the Lakes Region Land Trust updated the Sanbornton Conservation Commission on the status of the Swain conservation easement during the commission’s May 14 meeting. The trust representatives said the project has experienced delays but that they remain committed to completing the easement.
The presentation focused on the current status of the easement negotiation and steps remaining before closing. Boudreau and Rosa described administrative and procedural delays that have extended the timeline and said the trust is working to move the project forward. Commission members asked questions about future access and trail installation on the property.
“Trails on the property are the decision of the property owner, and can be decided after the easement project is completed,” Anna Boudreau said. The representatives emphasized that the easement’s conservation terms would be agreed before any decisions about public access or recreation are finalized.
Commission members indicated interest in ensuring long-term conservation outcomes and raised procedural questions; those questions were recorded in the meeting minutes but were not attributed to specific individual members. The commission did not take a formal vote on the easement at the public meeting; a subsequent non-public session addressed a possible acquisition related to an easement (see separate coverage).
