The Algoma Common Council voted Jan. 20 to purchase a Kubota tractor with attachments for parks and public works and to sell the existing Ventrac with a $15,000 minimum bid.
Council members and staff explained the new tractor will provide broader year-round utility for parks and public works tasks, not just snow removal. "I would like to purchase the new tractor with the attachments and put a minimum accepted bid on the Ventrac for $15,000," a council member said during the motion to proceed. Members discussed timing for ordering the tractor and the blower attachment, and staff said the snowblower lead time is two to three weeks in their supplier’s estimate.
The motion to purchase (including attachments) and to list the Ventrac for sale with a $15,000 minimum passed by roll call. Staff said they will contact the vendor about lead times for the blower so the Ventrac sale could be timed to avoid parallel equipment costs to the city.
Next steps: staff will place the equipment order, arrange attachments, list the Ventrac with the stated minimum bid and report back on trade-in/offers and delivery timing.
