The Town of Washington Select Board received department updates on equipment, roadwork and emergency response and authorized payroll and vendor payments during its April 2 meeting.
Ed Thayer, public works, reported on ongoing work and upcoming needs: easement updates for Valley Road; an upcoming tree-cutting plan along Valley Road; a received quote for a plow hitch; and approval to order replacement tires for the skid steer. Thayer said he obtained a lower final quote for a compactor and is awaiting a state-posted chip-seal quote for Faxon. He also noted that an ordered pump for Red Bridge was incorrect and that a variable-frequency drive (VFD) may be needed to provide a soft start that would extend the pump's life. Diesel fuel for the catch basin pump has increased in price.
Mark Dressel, lieutenant, provided a police update and reported the police cruiser is out of the shop. Shawn Atkins, fire chief, submitted the Fire and Rescue monthly calendar and activity report showing four rescue calls and one fire call for the period March 26-April 1, 2026.
The Select Board authorized payroll checks totaling $14,967.07 and vendor checks totaling $304,915.96 for April 3, 2026. Gary Kendall moved to adjourn at 7:06 p.m.; Evan Caffrey seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The minutes record equipment purchases and operational issues but do not include procurement contract numbers, vendor names, or estimated completion dates for the listed projects.
