In her Jan. 7 report Mayor Leigh Anne Young updated the board on regional infrastructure and economic development news. She said she attended a Southwestern Commission meeting for elected officials about the NC‑107 project and reported that the R‑5600 contract was awarded to Buchanan and Sons for $103 million, with a projected completion date of May 15, 2031. Mayor Young said a North Carolina Department of Transportation representative will attend the March Town Board meeting and requested that commissioners submit questions in advance.
Mayor Young also reported that Webster Village was awarded a $2.53 million Community Development grant from the North Carolina Department of Commerce; Jackson County is one of eight North Carolina communities to receive this award. The board did not take further action on those items at the Jan. 7 meeting.
