Mayor reports USPS site search, insurance review and community events at Webster meeting

On USPS site search: Rodes said several potential properties were submitted to the USPS real-estate representative. She relayed that Mr. Rigdon at Westbridge Vocational reported the USPS representative (Kyle Boward) considered that property unsuitable because it lacked sufficient visibility from SR 116, though Boward indicated USPS remains interested in finding a new location and is considering two sites “on the edge of town.”
On NCLM services and insurance: Rodes summarized free services offered by the North Carolina League of Municipalities, including budgeting assistance, audit interpretation, and writing internal control policies. She reported meeting with insurance representative Marcus Abernathy on Oct. 29; Abernathy recommended the town consider employment practices liability coverage if it has hourly staff, review bonding for finance officers (statutory minimums and percentages referenced in the minutes), and consider blanket crime coverage that can include cyber liability. The board expressed consensus to consider insurance updates before the next fiscal-year budget cycle.
Community events and staffing: Rodes reported approximately 900 children attended Town Hall trick-or-treating; traffic patrols Mason McGuire and Jarrett Shuler assisted with crossings and there were no parking issues. Rodes thanked volunteers and Commissioner Brandon Core for event setup and participant counting. She also noted traffic patrol paperwork (W9s and timesheets) for the new patrols Mark Junaluska and Sam Plaster and discussed traditional holiday recognition practices for patrols and partner organizations.
Rodes listed several charitable organizations and volunteer opportunities for the holiday season and noted upcoming local board and committee meeting dates. The minutes record that the Cemetery Board meets Nov. 11 and the Planning Board meets Nov. 20.
