Webster board approves small IT purchase; allows university intern to work at Town Hall

Town IT consultant Michael Huffman briefed the Webster Board on local IT security and recommended upgrades on Jan. 7, including individual board email addresses at an estimated cost of about $7 per user per month and increased storage capacity. Huffman recommended purchasing an external hard drive for data backup at a cost he estimated between $120 and $150.
Commissioner Sara Stahlman moved to approve the purchase of an external hard drive not to exceed $150; Commissioner Dale Collins seconded and the board approved the purchase unanimously.
Commissioner Brandon Core reported that Western Carolina University is providing an intern to assist the Webster Historical Society with archival work. The board granted the student permission to use the Town Hall meeting room for the internship, and Mayor Young and Commissioner Core agreed to relocate storage items to basement storage to create archival space.
Mayor Young also said the town lacks formal Town Hall and board procedures and asked commissioners to provide input as the policies-and-procedures project proceeds.
