Webster continues outreach for a new post office; zoning amendment sent to county and local resident appointed to Planning Board

Mayor Leigh Anne Young told the Town of Webster Board on Jan. 7 that a zoning text amendment the town submitted is currently under review at the Jackson County Planning Department and that a county planning representative will present the staff report at the Jan. 22 Planning Board meeting.
During public comment, resident Louise Runyon emphasized her recent contacts at the U.S. Postal Service and asked that the mayor and commissioners continue follow-up efforts to secure an alternative Webster post office location. Mayor Young said there have been no significant updates but that she will keep communicating with postal officials to express the town’s interest.
The board also addressed a Planning Board vacancy created when Chris Cox moved out of town. Mayor Young nominated Daniel Riggs, who introduced himself at the meeting, and the board unanimously appointed Riggs to the Planning Board.
The Planning Department presentation on Jan. 22 will provide the county staff report on the zoning text amendment; the board did not take further action on the amendment at this meeting.
