Resident asks Select Board to follow RSA 91-A:2,III on Zoom attendance; board to review

During the June 23 meeting, resident David Carle addressed the Select Board about Zoom attendance rules under state law. Carle said he had drafted an amendment to the Board's Rules of Procedure citing RSA 91-A:2,III, and that he had consulted an attorney on the issue. He said the 2008 amendment to the state law responded to concerns about officials not attending meetings in person and told the Board "they are not following the state law."
Carle argued that Selectperson Michael J. Smith should have stated his reason for remote attendance and that the Board must determine whether that reason is appropriate under the statute. Chairman Alfred Hanson acknowledged he has read RSA 91-A:2,III and assured Carle the Select Board would examine the matter carefully.
No formal action was taken at this meeting; Carle provided the Board with the NH Municipal Association materials and requested the Board consider policy changes to align with the statute.
