The Algoma City Council voted to approve a budget amendment to move money from the general fund to the capital projects fund after the parks department's new lawn mower cost $2,045.60 more than expected.
"The lawnmower ended up costing $2,045.60 more than we had anticipated," the treasurer said, explaining the amendment was a bookkeeping transfer to cover the overage. The treasurer said the city will reduce operating lines for community building heat and concessions to cover the shortfall.
A councilmember made the motion to approve the amendment; it was seconded and passed on a roll-call vote with unanimous yes votes recorded on the transcript. The treasurer said a related resolution to finalize the move will appear on the Dec. 1 council agenda.
Council members described the amendment as adjusting where the expense is recorded rather than adding new spending. No amendments to the substance of the budget were proposed during the discussion.
The council also accepted routine reports and voted on general bills earlier in the meeting; the treasurer remains scheduled to provide final mill-rate numbers ahead of the Dec. 1 public hearing.
