Algoma council approves routine bills, continues Spillman dispatch licensing and appoints Emily Pierre to CDC

The Algoma Common Council approved routine bills and credit‑card payments during its Jan. 5 meeting and voted to continue the city's participation in the county Spillman computer‑aided dispatch licensing arrangement. The council also confirmed the mayor's appointment of Emily Pierre to the Community Development Committee (CDC).

The council considered a question from a member about maintenance responsibilities for an RC mower; maintenance staff said the machine is several years old and showing worn axle shafts. After brief discussion the council moved to approve the bills as presented. "We have a motion to approve the bill as presented," a council member said; another member identified the motion as made by Scott and seconded by Kevin. The clerk conducted a roll‑call vote in which the named members recorded affirmative responses and the motion carried.

Staff introduced an annual licensing payment for the Spillman dispatch software used by the county and participating agencies. The police chief explained that agencies share the licensing costs and that continuing the license is required to keep using the county dispatch software. "Basically, it's required if we're gonna keep using the county's dispatch," the staff presenter said. The council moved and voted to continue the licensing arrangement; the motion carried.

On appointments, Mayor (addressed during the meeting as Mayor) nominated Emily Pierre to the CDC. A council member moved to appoint Pierre and another council member seconded; the council approved the appointment by roll call.
