Village Administrator Joe Miller updated the South Zanesville Village Council on April 6 about recent work on the water system and steps to address EPA findings.
Miller said the village has corrected two of eight violations cited in a January inspection and has submitted a timeline to the agency for addressing the remaining six items; the revised timeline was accepted. Council members pressed for detail: Council member Don Stillion asked which two violations had been completed, and council acknowledged specific violations were not spelled out at the meeting.
Council member Ed Harlan said progress has been affected by delays in obtaining materials. Administrator Miller responded that the Fiscal Officer had ordered required components and that some equipment was expected to arrive within several days. The discussion emphasized that remaining work depends on receipt of ordered materials.
Miller also told council that to be eligible for certain grants tied to the water project, the village may need to secure a loan in the range of roughly $150,000 to $200,000, likely by July. He said the matter will begin in Finance Committee and proceed to full council for detailed review.
Next steps: Finance Committee will examine funding options and loan scenarios for the water project, and staff will report back with specifics on which EPA violations have been corrected and an updated timeline for completion.
