Findlay supervisors approve $1,500 donation for Eagle Scout tunnel refurbishment

The Findlay Township Board of Supervisors voted unanimously March 26 to provide a $1,500 donation to support an Eagle Scout’s refurbishment of a township pedestrian tunnel.
William Geisler reported that he has applied weed killer and removed moss in the tunnel, plans to power-wash the walls and paint them white with black numbers, and must finish the project by April 11, 2026. Manager Tom Garrett told the Board staff can turn on a faucet to allow Mr. Geisler to power-wash the tunnel walls, and noted concrete may need additional paint coats because it will absorb paint.
The Geisler family had proposed a $750 budget but requested $1,500; Supervisor Janet Craig suggested approving $1,500 and having Mr. Geisler return any unspent funds. Supervisor Thomas Gallant moved to approve the requested donation; Raymond Chappell seconded. The motion carried 3–0.
Board members discussed drainage improvements at the tunnel: a three-foot grate at the Activity Center side and clearing the opposite drain have reduced water entering the tunnel. Mrs. Geisler said there were leaves in the grate; Mr. Chappell cautioned about chemical use when cleaning. The Board recorded the funding motion and next steps for project completion.
The Board adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
