Selectmen back expansion of Carter Brook Wildlife Management Area
Summary
The Board of Selectmen voted to support a Fish and Game purchase that would add a parcel to the Carter Brook Wildlife Management Area, expanding public hunting and fishing access and increasing the WMA to about 950 acres.
The Springfield Board of Selectmen voted Jan. 12 to provide a letter supporting a Fish and Game purchase that would add a privately owned parcel to the Carter Brook Wildlife Management Area.
Joshua McGraw presented a map and a sample support letter, saying the sale would permanently add the parcel to public land and expand the WMA to roughly 950 acres. Selectman Steve Dzubak moved to support the expansion; Jen Roberts seconded, and both voted in favor.
The support letter is intended for the Executive Council review that precedes final approval by Fish and Game. Board members asked that the letter be provided as soon as possible so it can accompany submissions to the executive council.
The motion passed with two votes in favor; Vice Chair Amy Lewis was absent. The purchase and any final approvals remain subject to the Fish and Game and executive council processes.
